Product Description
This Bushido Musashi Natural Wooden Shirasaya sword brings a hand-forged, high-carbon blade into a no frills shirasaya sword form. The 27" high-carbon steel blade is hand-forged by skilled swordsmiths from the ancient town of Longquan. The blade is fullered to reduce weight and increase the speed of handling, but not so much as to reduce the integrity of the sword. A matching hardwood scabbard completes this simple, yet beautiful, functional work of art.

There is very good workmanship in this sword, bear in mind that this was probably made by a robotic machine, but still that counts as workmanship. On the plus side the sword is fairly heavy, you need two hands to use it, so no singled handed Zatoichi slashes. So its good for exercise and training. The shape of the handle is very good, its on symmetrical oval shaped, but is thinner curved on the finger side, thicker curved on the palm side of the handle. There is a little wooden dowel that holds the blade in the handle, I dont like this. With such a heavy blade I would think centrifugal force could break this dowel and send the blade flying. I dont know much about Katanas, maybe this is how blades are attached, but it seems weak to me. I dont like that the junction where the handle meets the sheath is painted black, in my opinion this ruins the overall quality of the sword. I would advise the manufacturer of this sword to stop painting this junction black as there is no good reason for it. As another reviewer mentioned, the sword stays securely connected to the sheath through friction, so this can be used as a cane. But again, the black stripe at the junction ruins the look of this sword as a cane.

I have purchased MANY Swords, and this one is By Far one of the best!!! Excellent Blade and Sharp! Very Nice and I would definitely recommend.

I prefer this over my Warrior Katana which is a little longer and a fair bit heavier. I like the weight and minor imperfections are to be expected and accepted in this price range. Only thing I would want to change for my own comfort is to add 2" to the butt

WOW))). this sword is awesome as hell. Lite, stunning finish on the blade, nice glossy finish on both the Saya and Tsuka. Very beautiful to look at and to use. Very sharp as well.

Got this as a gift for my sister, who also loves katana blades. she love this for sure.

Its a little tight pulling the blade out but can be easily handled.

Great Buy.

I just got this sword yesterday for my friend and I am impressed. So impressed that now I want one. The whole shape is so slick and the handle feels amazing in your hands. The blade is very sharp too. My friend already cut himself pretty good while trying to draw it and that was with the dullest part of the blade. The blade itself sticks a little inside the scabbard but not too bad to make a huge difference. All in all, amazing blade. Thank you True Swords for providing such great pieces at such great prices.

What a very solid piece of artwork this katana is! Its wood Saya and Tsuka are undoubtedly made of real wood and built sturdy. The katana is not too loose, and fits perfectly. Overall a beautiful katana and for a great price too!

Very high quality sword for the price. The blade is very sharp & fits very solid in the tsuka with no free play or rattles & fits very nicely into the saya (not to tight & not to loose, perfect in my opinion) The Saya is also very nice, no chips or scratches in the wood anywhere & the wood finish is very beautiful. I must say this sword is worth every penny & then some.

A+

This is an excellent sword. I received it yesterday and just finished performance testing. This sword will cut tatami cleanly with minimal effort. I own swords that cost over $100 that didn't perform as well as this sword. Musashi once again delivers an excellent sword at budget price. The only nitpick is that the saya has a darker finish on one side. But that may be just my sword. Get one before they're gone!

About a month ago I purchased one id these blade just to see what it was about, plus I love natural wood finishes. I have a somewhat unusual mode of testing new blades. First, I always cut the box it came in in order to see if the blade "cuts" or "tears" the box. A good clean cut says I've gor a good sharp 'battle ready blade' , tearing usually means a dull blade that will not take, or hold a sharp edge no matter how keen you get it...substandard metal period. Second, I'll place the point of the blade on one of my wooden ground blocks and grasping by the handle apply a great deal of pressure to test the spring ability of the blade its self...needless to say I've broken a few blades with this test... But this Musashi sprung at least one foot in the air off of my testing block with no bend or kink at all in the blade. The only draw-back I've found is that when I did my 'spring test'is that I snapped, or broke the bamboo pin that is the connection point of blade to handle, but that's no biggie for it's not loose at all, I just heard a snap. At some point in the future I'll take it apart and add a second pin. I just feel more secure with double pegs. The blade does come sharp out of the box, but not "razor sharp" so don't try to shave with it untill you put a razor edge on it...which I have done with the first one but have yet to do any serious cutting on harder material so I can't attest to how the blade will hold up with a very sharp edge, will let you know when I test it... Last week I ordered two more if these blades, another natural finish, and one with the rosewood finish...They are exactly the same blades only the finish is different and it passed all of my little test also without snapping the bamboo peg, so I've very pleased for the price. And as usual True Sword was very prompt on getting my order to me, as a matter of fact, T-S has always been the fasted in shipping with NO MISTAKES!!! First Class my friends!!!!

Beautiful blade, worth every dollar and more. I haven't found any large flaws yet accept for the sheath being slightly more on the tight side then i like but thats no biggie.
All in All its a perfect blade 5.5/5

This is an extremely well built katana. The quality is quite excellent considering the price and appears about three times as much. As many have commented, the sword is very hard to remove from the saya or scabbard when it first came out of the box. This is easily remedied by a little bit of filing using an emery board or by using sand paper wrapped around a popsicle stick. I sanded a bit of the inside of the saya so that the sword would fit precisely and snugly, but not overly tight. I also sanded a bit of the meguki or peg because it was sticking up a bit. The quality of the blade geometry is quite excellent with a perfect center line running through the entire back of the spine of the blade. The quality of the blade is simply impressive. All in all, I am very happy with this sword. I just wished that I had ordered 2 of them.

I adore this blade. It's not as durable as I would've liked it to be, the blade isn't straight, and the weight is slightly off, but because of it's light weighted steel I have always had the first blood draw in sparring matches. Yes I spar with it and it's dangerous, but it is the skill of the welder that posses the true threat. Not the blade itself. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Wow, can't believe I didn't review this yet!

Personally I love this sword. She holds sturdy, doesn't rattle around in the saya and cuts like it was meant to.

I only have two issues with my sword, for one the temper seems to be brushed or ground onto the blade. Not what I deducted a star for, I don't mind this because For a $60 sword, I expected $60 results.
What really threw me off was how tight the blade is in the saya. I mean tight. So tight that these are wood chips and dust when I draw it. As in I can feel the wood being cut when I sheath/draw the blade.

But that's my only real quip, she's perfect in every other aspect. Heavier than the $80 line, but not unbearably so and with a little play you hardly notice the weight difference.

Definitely worth the buy.

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with my Shirasaya. The blade is very hard to draw from the sheath and therefore over several draws, the blade and handle have loosened a bit. The problem was easily corrected by sanding the inside of the sheath a bit to make it draw more smoothly, banging the blade back into the handle and replacing the bamboo pin.
Other than this problem, the sword is beautiful and VERY functional. I'd suggest taking the steps that I did before it is necessary and you'll be completely satisfied with yours.

This was a good purchase. It is a very sturdy sharp sword if not a little heavier than expected. The shipping time was amazing. I had my swords in less than 24 hours. how is that even possible?
Aug 06, 2016

Ive had this sword for a few days, the pin for the handle is glued in, the blade had print on it, the metal itself scratches with ease, the habaki come very loose after drawing it more than once or twice, over all its more of a show sword than battle ready, its beautiful, but also fragile

Got this today. The blade has a nice shape and weight though I thought it would be a real hamon, turns out it's etched.

I was a little disappointed in the wood though, the handle and saya are totally different colors, the menuki is loose and pushes out with my finger. The wood has several obvious repairs and you can see filler in places.

On the other hand it cuts cardboard nicely and I can sand it down, re-stain and re-lacquer since it is real wood.

Sokay for the price, not as amazing as I thought based on other reviews.
