Incredible piece for collectors, as well as for possible defensive purposes. Mine truly was razor sharp out of the box. It has enough weight to be useful, yet not so heavy that it is cumbersome. This an exceptional value, especially if you are a fan of HONSHU blades.

Nioh here again black belt weapon expert and this knife is one of a few I’d break the rule you don’t bring a knife to a gun fight or the rule you don’t fight a man with a sword with anything shorter then your arm. This “little” knife (dagger) is a fighter like no other in its class. I will keep this one close at hand. Smooth grip not just going to slip rain or snow easy teleport ahold of. Tested against all I test a sword against this pasted it all. Don’t settle for a cheap gas station knife when you can have something worth it’s price for a lifetime. I received this knife as a Christmas gift this past year and, wow, what a knife! Very nicely made. Decent piece of steel, good feeling grip and definitely razor sharp. The defensive pommel is a very good design addition. Even the sheath is good quality. For the selling price, this is a very nice knife. I'm considering buying more of the United Cutlery knives of this series.

Such an excellent knife that I purchased two! I put it to you like this if there was ever a zombie apocalypse or long term civil unrest and I had only a split second to grab either this knife or a pistol.....I would chose this knife. My only two gripes about this knife are merely aesthetic and are of a personal preference. This knife was touted as having a tanto edge but my understanding is that the tip should have sharp angles not curves. Secondly, I hate shinny reflective blades. I wish they had made it in black. Nonetheless the blade is incredibly thick and seemingly indestructible. The grip feels superb and the pummel is on point thereby making both ends of this tool deadly.

This is much more of a knife than I expected. It is so nice I am ordering a second one today after I finish writing the review. Hard to believe all this for the price. I have a habit of giving knives to family and friends; so I need another just in case.

Just recieved two of these knifes, Very nice. In All my years of studying Martial Arts, Weapons were oftern included, my favorite were "Knives and Swords", with knives we were Always taught to fight with Two, another reason I buy in Two's at BUDK. These Blades are Well Worth the Money.

Larger and heavier than I had expected it to be, but very well built. It came in fairly quickly and pretty sharp (I've been practicing on plastic water filled bottles and get a clean cut all the way through.) The blood groove is nice and deep, and the blade is definitely full tang. This is one of the best knives I've ever owned and I am a very satisfied customer.

Out of the 4 knives I purchased in this last order, the honshu was the cheapest but one of my favorites. It feels very well made, looks great in stainless, and is much bigger than I thought it would be in person.! It's like a mini sword. The rubber grip feels great too. The sheath is almost worth the price. Well made,thick leather, unlike the sheaths of many cheaper knives I have purchased. I'd buy another if I ever had the need to replace this one.

The price is great. The blade is well made and has a good balance to it. Also like the grip. It comes very sharp. Nice! Second Honshu knife. Won't be the last.

I don't know whether to call this a knife or a short sword. Well whatever category you want to fit this in, only one thing remains: This weapon is totally badass. The blade is sharp right out of the box, the rubber grip along with the feel of the full tang is amazing, and it can do some serious damage. I totally recommend this to ANY collector of weapons; whether you collect blades, guns, or any kind of combination in between, you need to have this in your collection. Total 5 out of 5. No contest.

For this price you can't go wrong. When I first got this blade I did a few chop and cut test. Pretty sharp right out the box but after a bit of manipulating this thing become deadly. It's more mini sword like than knife like, so it really only has one purpose. To slash and stab things with. BudK has some great promotions and discounts so if you can get this thing with a discount or free shipping its definitely worth it. BudK's customer service is great too, when I ordered mine it was on backorder, but I received it only a week later. Top class!

Great for Florida Hog hunting. I like the stainless steel, no rust with all the rain we get you just cant beat it. I have the original that this is the copy of paid $130 for it but it is carbon steel and started to rust after one hunting trip. You just cant go wrong with this. Its not like you need carbon steel for this size, A sword yes, but this is great for Hunting.

You won't be disapointed with this fine quality knife, it would still be a great value at 3 times the price. This is my second "Honshu" knife, I also own the "Bowie" . I would recomend this to anyone who loves collecting knives, and I'm sure I'm not finished buying "Honshu" knives. Excellent quality!!!!!

This is a great knife. My son also bought this product. It is well made and fits the hand perfectly. The only suggestion I would make to improve this product is to provide a wakisashi and a katana of the same design. I realize stainless steel is not the original metal used in these types of cutlery, but for our day....it works for me. Being a machinist, I can appreciate the quality of material and the design maybe a little better than most.

I just received this knife a couple days ago and really all I could say was "WOW this knife is huge".to me this is kinda like a small katana in my hands.the blade is sharp and the handle gave my hand a firm and unbreakable grip.

This thing is marvelous! Beautiful and darn near razor sharp! I love the length, and the grip is really nice and grippy. The sheath is very nice too, its sturdy and the belt loop thing seems like its attached firmly.<br /><br />5/5, I recommend this to anyone after a good (and large) knife.

This is a great knife for the price. The fit and feel of the knife is excellent. The blade is nicely polished and of the right length. When you pick up the weapon it is solid in your hand. As someone already stated the sheath is poorly designed and the snap is hard to work UNTIL you use it for awhile and then it will function better. It is still too easy to slice through it. I'm happy I bought the knife and would again.

This rating is just for the knife. Great knife, this knife is so sharp you can shave with it right out the box. Full tang and a really nice fill in your hands. That being said, the holster, even though it's really nice leather, is a bad design. Hard to put in sheath and the button is hard to button, but well worth the money spent. Just get rid of sheath and make your own.... Knife gets 5 stars the set {knife and sheath} gets 4 stars. If you are still on the fence just pick it up you will be happy you got it.

Very nice knife for the price. Blade is actually quite sharp and finished well. Backbone is thick and the full tang with a pommel is a plus for fighting. I see this knife filling quite a few niches such as a machete, pig sticker, self defense etc.

The dynamic structure of this knife is excellent. Its rubber grip allows a firm hold. Movements of slashing, stabbing and thrusting can be done ergonomically. Blade is sharp and its 10 3/4" length has an advantage over many fighter knives. Appearance itself will give intruders second thought of pursuing an attack. Practicing this tanto together with the Honshu fighter for combo attack and defense moves can be effective. Bottom line, a superb knife that is highly recommended!

Perfectly finished, good sheath including the belt loop (unlike the Pakistani sheaths), very sharp, beautiful blade and good grip. Perfect size for it's purpose - strong but not too heavy. I carry this tanto in the back country for defense where open firearm carry during the day is not appropriate. I like it so much I will be getting the black version from budk as well.

In his collection so far, this is the one he is proud to show his friends. There is an audible gasp when they first see it and are anxious to hold it.

I love this knife. It's a big, awesome knife - thick blade, full tang, heavy and with a heavy guard. The handle fits my XL hand just fine, and the rubber grip feels great and doesn't slip. The knife is very nicely finished and is one of the few knives I've bought that I didn't feel needed to be 'tuned up' on the cutting edge. The sheath isn't fancy, but is heavy leather and well made. The only 'defect' is that the strap on the sheath is a bit too short and pushes the guard into the belt loop in a weird and sort of uncomfortable way. But THAT may be a production thing and not the way yours will arrive. (Besides, I can change that myself.) It's a great knife for the money if you need a long blade and I recommend it highly. I'd buy another if I didn't have other things I want to buy first.

You must be cautious when handling. Fantastic design and feel when cutting and slashing. If you like tanto's, you'll love this beast. A great value, buy today!

This knife exceeded my expectations relating to quality, fit, finish, balance and quality sheath.

I cannot believe this knife is this cheap, this is one of the best investments I have ever made. This knife looks and feels great. The edge from the factory wasn't all that terrific but with a little work on the stones, it took a razor sharp edge and holds it. I liked the first one I ordered so much, I immediately ordered another one. I own knives that cost 4-5 times more that don't take or hold the edge this knife does, made from very nice steel, incredible knife in every way. You won't be disappointed.

This United Cutlery UC2629 is a most excellent item for the small price. It comes with thick well made leather sheath that would cost $30-$40 alone in the past. 440SS has good corrosion resistance properties and more than adequate edge holding ability. The blade is a good 4.5mm thick and not to be underrated as a very functional tactical defensive edged weapon. I will be getting an extra one soon.

Very nice looking blade. Sheath isn’t bad, does require effort just to snap on the strap though. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase and good quality for the price you pay.

i bought this tanto after reading all the reviews. they complained about the handle. i found the same. weird hilt. and because i am parafrog, i found the answer to the riddle. you do not grasp this thing as if it were a knife--the handle is to long to flip it like most fixed blades--and that is because it was not designed to be held like a knife. this tanto is designed to be held in a fencing grip. how? follow my instructions. put the blade in your grip with your thumb running along atop the handle--the thumb running in a center line through the wrist--with the tip of the the thumb touching the guard. while leaving the thumb in place--wrap the fingers around the handle. you should find your hand in a fencing grip, with the fleshy part of the palm nestling in the curved cut out on the end of the pommel. and that is it. move your thumb as needed. during a thrust, leave it on top to help prevent slippage. during the slash, move the thumb away from the palm, and wrapped more around the handle--to increase wrist flexibility. solved. don't applaud--just send cash. frog.

I just got this knife and have to agree with Mitch's 2 points. I read this before buying it and got it anyway when the deals, etc lined up to make it cheaper. I am glad the Honshu line is giving us a lower priced version of a lot of the Cold Steel blades -can't afford CS and unless you are a collector, then why not. The handle does get smaller toward the end and it really does feel like it could slide right out of the hand - nothing a little hockey tape can't fix. I would also like the handle to be a little longer, but that is just me. I did buy it in hopes that it might be a good as a mini sword and it isn't bad for that, but could be a little longer for this and again the handle thing comes into play. I get the sense that if used to thrust deep, the length of the blade in relation to the shortness of the handle would provide torque that could take it right out of your hand. The double edged dagger/fighter is perfect for thrusting and great handle on that one. I got this as a mini sword for slashing in closer quarters - not a CQC blade for really in tight though and knew from the review about the limitations of the handle. Got it for much less with the deals though so ok with it all and would recommend it as long as you know what it is you are getting and are ok with that. Hate most of the Honshu sheaths! If you can only get 1 or 2, then go for the double edged dagger and the Karambit!

The blade is thick and strong, and the handle is sturdy. However, I have two complaints with the shape of this piece. 1) The tapered handle feels like it will fly out of your hand. Especially if you're doing any sort of wrist work where you need to grasp the blade mostly with thumb and forefinger, this handle is shaped just right to wedge its way out of your hand. 2) In my opinion, 17" is a bad length for a knife. I wish I'd learned this on a cheaper blade. It's too short for machete work or to do any real slashing damage in combat, but its length makes it more cumbersome than an 11" blade which could pierce just as well. No complaints with the quality at all, and I would definitely buy more from the Honshu series. But, before you drop $40 on a blade, spend some time really picturing how it will fit and feel in your hand when in use.

I purchased the knife in the blackened version, very happy. Big blade, sharp enough out of the box for most tasks, and feels great in the hand, but the one, and usually the simplest drawback to most knives (meaning all, not just UC) is that no one bothers to make up a great functional, and QUIET sheath. Loud click of the button and the rattle of the blade touching the rivets inside the sheath throat, as well as clicking the two button halves on the way out makes for a very loud draw. Would love to see this blade get a simple upgrade to a kydex sheath of some sort. Just an idea. Otherwise, great knife!

Knife is ok, sheath would be good except the knife does not go all the way in! MTech version is less than half the price and nearly as good!
