The axe throws well but it was too loose at the head but I fixed it with some super glue.

Apr 19, 2019

Nice balance. I ordered 3, Heads were a little loose so epoxy took care of that. They throw well.

This is not recommended for seriously hard work, it's not made to throw in to a tree but, for something similar to a dart board, and thrown litely not for Killin zombies or serious self-defense. Better to make a wall decor or something to look at.

This is a throwing ax folks. The ax head is supposed to come loose to keep the handle from breaking. It is not supposed to be sharp for cutting since it is designed to be thrown at wooden targets. It works fine when used for what it was designed for.
Jun 15, 2018

Poor excuse of a ax when I got it, but the fix is fairly easy, cut the nub off ,cut the alum. ring out, grind the end of handle down to a tight fit in the head, you'll have a shoulder on the handle, drill a hole through the center of head, put a 3 inch wood screw in in hole you drilled, screw in tight. I've been throwing since and the head not only stayed on it stayed tight on handle, it really throws good, it surprised me how good.
Jun 27, 2017

The axe head is made excellent. the handle is also good, however it was poorly put together.
Jun 04, 2009

Yes the head does come lose so i drilled a hole in the top and ran a long wood screw down into the handle and it work just fine. The next step would be grind the top off and insert a wedge but all and all it throws great and sharpens with a file

I bought (3) three of these as my first attempt at throwing a tomahawk. The good thing about them is that the head part can take a punishment and is relatively good. The bad part is that the handles and the connection to the head is not good. You need some skills to replace the handles and secure them to the head. Once you do that---- you have a nice throwing tomahawk.
May 05, 2011

They also came loose around 4 or 5 throws for me also.. i bought 3 of them too! slightly disappointed. all in all, you get what you paid for. Hey Bjarki.. where'd you get the aluminum handles?
May 28, 2009

The handles are mounted by a threaded cap that is crimped onto the wooden shaft. This system won't last long if the axes are used. Replacement with a threaded aluminum handle (painted) solved this problem and allowed balance adjustments.
Feb 26, 2009

it is alright i guess well balanced and stuff but the head of the ax is loose after 5 throws!! its pretty much dull too it reminds me of a toy but overall its alright its just dull and loose but well balanced!

Unfortunately I waited about 6 months till I took it out to test. It threw very well up to the fourth throw when I noticed a little wobble with the head. The fifth throw stuck but the handle just dropped to the ground. I thought it broke but, no the miniscule of adhesive dislodged and the wood in the head compacted no longer retained a tight fit. I tried drilling a hole for a screw in the top but, it only stays tight for two throws at best. I'll try some of the suggestions others mentioned

Head broke off of both of these that I received. They throw and stick well but just wont last more than a few throws
Oct 17, 2013

This product is fair, it takes a little handy man skills to make it strong, but then works, ok.
Mar 15, 2012

As an axe throwing instructor I suggest unscrewing the handles and replacing them with 1/2" pvc pipe nipples (12")and keep the original handles for displays.
Feb 20, 2012

Poor head attachment. I purchased three at once and to-date I have bored two of the handle sockets straight through and use doweling for handles. The heads are light but will work satisfactorily. Makes a good hunting hatchet for trimming brush from firing lanes.
Jan 22, 2020

Heads ok. Handle wood at top to hold axe head Metal filler ring which made the top of the wood handle much smaller. Ask head stuck into target handle broke all of them not worth the money

Oct 23, 2019

These are poorly designed for throwing axes. I bought five of them. Three of the handles broke off on the first throw, a fourth broke on the 3rd throw. They aren't designed to be able to rehead the blade on another shaft, so it's trash once broken.

Jan 08, 2016

Opened mine up and handle wasn't secure to the head. Stain from the handle was all over the head. No sharpness at all on blade
Oct 12, 2015

The handle broke off the head with the first throw. The wooden part that goes inside the ax handle is very thin and short and can't withstand the impact of the throw. It was complete disappointment for my son when he got to play with his birthday gift. And a waste of time and money for me.
Aug 08, 2015

Very disappointed this product is not meant for use I didn't even get ten throws out of the two of these I got before the heads came loose

It looks like a competitive throwing axe, but like the other comments, it lasted about 3 throws. It loosens on the first throw, became worse the second and broke off the third. Some alterations makes it a very poor thrower.

Jan 03, 2015

The handle came loose on the first throw, I should pay more attention to the item details, they were smaller than I was anticipating. big let down. I have to modify them to have a workable hatchet.
Dec 24, 2014

This throwing axe is little more than a toy.If you want a semi cool showpiece, you got it.Its junk, bought three, and broke one just by tossing it lightly. They are not made for improving on there junk. Gave them away and called it a loss. Check out other ones,Bud K still rocks. Shop smart, do your research, and remember you kinda get what you pay for.
Nov 21, 2014

first throw and the head came loose if budk is going to sale them as throwing hatchets they sould make sure they are what they say they are throwing hatchets
Aug 20, 2014

ok well i know this axe was not going to be the best judging the price but i did not think it would be that bad the axe head came right off the first chop.(do not buy it) but i still love budk

Jun 18, 2014

I also bought 6 of these. Looked good, felt good in the hand but when actually thrown...the axe heads came off within 2 throws. Hate to see them go to waste so I will try to locate someone to fabricate a better fit for the axe head/handle design. Have bought many items from BK and will continue to do so. I will not recommend this item to other throwers!

Apr 21, 2014

The heads fell off the handle after only a couple throws. Glad I got 2 for the price of one but still not worth it.
Feb 06, 2014

Not worth time to order. Read reviews before buying. I purchased three head came loose on first throw of one, handle broke first throw of second one, head lose on third on after a couple of throws. All stuck in target block. will not buy this junk again
Nov 18, 2013

Bought 10 of these for an outdoor skills day. All of the handles broke quickly. We tried to fix them in the field, but the wood was too hard to carve with a knife. Hard wood is good for a lot of things, but in this case it wouldn't flex and bend so it just broke. If you buy some of these axes, be prepared to replace the handles.
Nov 16, 2013

If Buying to mount on the wall for décor then these are nice. They are NOT throwing axes or Chopping hatchets. Budk is a good site I have bought and will buy from them again, other sites don't even have a customer product review.
Nov 07, 2013

Head fell of the handle the first day. If I had read the reviews first I wold never have bought it. Save your money and buy a better tomahawk don't buy budk again!!!!
Oct 28, 2013

I bought four of these to try each on had a loose head and each one broke on the first throw
Oct 14, 2013

I have to say after they sent me the first ones I was disappointed. The heads are loose on the handle, So I called and told them the problem. They sent two new ones to me I just recieved them and they are the same loose from the handle. I think you would be better off with throwing a butter knife than having these. Sadly these are the poorest I have ever seen.
Jan 01, 2013

This is one step up from a plastic toy.. Thin cheap metal on a short light handle(that will not stay on.. with it's strange half in head design) Sorry I bought it.
Nov 16, 2011

I bought trying to get into throwing knives and hatchets thinking it was a good price. Unfortunately I got one throw out it...It hit correctly, didn't stick in the target and the handle broke free. Very disappointed.
Oct 18, 2011

I bought 2 of these items and the heads came off on both of them after a couple of throws. I'm kinda disappointed. Next time I'll get a Cold Steel tomahawk. They have better quality.
Aug 29, 2011

The reason everybody handles keep getting all messed up is simple. A true throwing hawk has a mildly tapered handle that get smaller farther away from the head. That way instead of cracking, splitting, breaking, etc. The head just pops off and simply has to be slid back on and tapped in place.
